President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo says he is very optimistic that Ghana’s economy would bounce back stronger.
He stated despite present economic issues that have endangered the nation’s budget, his administration’s programs and policies will restore the country to development and prosperity.

Speaking at this year’s Founders’ Day Luncheon for senior citizens in Accra on Thursday, the President was sure that Ghanaians’ can-do attitude will help fix the country’s economic malaise.

Since independence 65 years ago, we’ve lamented that our country hasn’t lived up to its tremendous potential and that other nations, notably those in southeast Asia like Korea and Malaysia, have outpaced us in terms of growth.
“Despite the many obstacles we have had to surmount, including prolonged periods of instability and military rule, fuelled by several coup d’états, I continue to be proud of the can-do spirit of the Ghanaian and our determination not to be backed down by events and allow the circumstances and challenges of today to shape our collective future,” he said.

President Akufo-Addo said the administration is taking steps to strengthen the economy in the near term, including requesting IMF assistance.
“I’m convinced we’ll resuscitate and rebuild the economy and put our country back on a path of strong economic development like we had in the three years before the epidemic.

“This is a serious promise. “I’m enthusiastic about Ghana’s future,” he said.

The president announced intentions to give national honours to Ghanaians who have excelled in many professions, notably those who are fighting COVID-19.

He said 19,752 Frontline and associated health professionals, 32 religious organisations and institutions, and 8 COVID-19 National Trust Fund members would receive the Presidential Award of Honour for Meritorious Service.

In addition, 16 members of the National COVID-19 task group, 12 trustees of the Ghana COVID-19 private sector fund, and the inventor of the veronica bucket will receive the “Order of the Volta Companion.”

13 Ghanaians will get the Order of the Volta and Member for strategic and individual leadership.

Fifty-seven others from the health sector, Ghana Education Service, Local Government Service, and Security Services will also get the magnificent medal.

The remaining awardees include 58 members of the COVID-19 private sector fund’s technical assistance team and 26 enterprises that switched to making hand sanitizers to reduce Ghana’s import dependency.

Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the Chief of Staff, Madam Frema Akosua Osei Opare, members of the Council of State, certain ministers, and other government officials attended.
